Re: Is Cable On Deck?
@Mike, thanks for that background!  Interesting developments.  This again goes to show how the open platform plays a key role in advancing technology, as opposed to selecting one versus another.

Re: Is Cable On Deck?
@mpouraryan, my view is that the open platform IS designed to provide more and better options for the users.  I see that as moving beyond the old models of us vs. them and a win-lose proposition.

What are some examples of "options" you envision beyond what we already have so far that is being refined and revised?

Re: Is Cable On Deck?
@mpouraryan, what is in my mind, which continues to offer better options, are platforms, such as AT&T is developing that scale and deploy the right technology needed to solve the customers' problems, as opposed to continually promoting a single or competing technologies.  The platform approach utilizes open systems, such as ONAP, where service probiders (including cable companies) can recommend the appropriate technology to address, scale, provide the service the user is needing and preferred.  This tends to be a platform of assembled capabilities, as opposed to defining the user's problems by the technology solution.

AT&T, Huawei, other leading platform providers are providing better options, including use of SD-WAN, and don't just become a one solution provider.

Re: Is Cable On Deck?
The question is how long before we see such evolution you envision.   For the sake of the end user, I hope it is sooner than later!!

@mpouraryan No pain no gain right? I wonder how many companies will try to avoid the pain and end up dying as a result.

Re: ONAP Industries
@afwriter that is true. You can avoid pain by maintaining the status quo, but when the world passes you by, your loss would be that much greater.

Re: ONAP Industries
It is absolutely true--This is as I see some further "rays of hope" as epitomized by this I just saw courtesy of Fortune in my morning AM review before running off:

Today we're publishing online Robert Hackett's feature about the GoogleSWAT team of hackers that is trying to cover the frighteningly large number of gaps in security across the Internet. It's an engrossing read that reveals much about how companies allow, detect, and respond to a kind of incident that gets no less frightening with familiarity. It's the cover story for Fortune'sJuly edition and you can read it here.

Wishing you all a great Weekend.

Re: Is Cable On Deck?
@mpouraryan, I am with you on that!  I believe the leading companies have been developing that for some time, so potentially their end-user solutions will begin to drive the market place.

I believe that is the potential value that true transformation will provide - it should be a distinctive difference.

Re: ONAP Industries
@afwriter, I think you are right.  Let's hope the "shortcutters" don't take the lead - because the comparisons should be distinctive with the real thing versus the "look-alikes".
