In addition to security, other stumbling blocks appear to be the investment needs which are difficult to meet because of high-wage labor costs. It's also known for its efficiency, but it's not surprising business decision-makers are approaching the Internet of Things with caution. They are also logical in that they want to lay down a strong groundwork for security before totally getting on board with IoT. I don't think enterprises in the U.S. were that much different too long ago in their feelings about IoT, and for the same reason -- security issues. This report validates that they need to take a further step forward though. This is interesting in that they are buying in to the concept of Industrial 4.0 with full use of technology. IBM has just committed an investment of $200 million in Munich to advance the Industrial 4.0 for manufacturing, healthcare, engineering, etc. I would think IoT should fit in with that. If they really embrace the full digital economy I believe that will be a leading economic region with the use of IoT. It would be fascinating to see how other countries in the EU compare to Germany on this.
