Um...er...
Actually, the three variants on using outside help scored higher in aggregate than the DIY option.
Re: Um...er...
Good point! I had written something along those lines, but then deleted it.

Re: Um...er...
To steal a line from Alex Rodriguez, this is kind of the pink elephant in the room. The focus of much of the telco transformation debate has been on the need for CSPs to undergo massive cultural and organizational changes to make this stuff happen. I would think that outsourcing the processes related to transformation would be the more practical and less painful approach, but it's not one that's getting talked up that much.
Re: Um...er...
You've gone deep quoting A-Rod. :) So maybe that's the way to go early on and then do the training/cultural transformations bit by bit.

Re: Um...er...
What's a little strange is that so much of the new economy is tilting toward "rent" instead of "own." Technology suppliers recognize this, which is why they're moving quickly from selling boxes and solutions to more of a managed services model. And after all, that's what the cloud is about as well.
Re: Um...er...
Managed services plus software as well, but don't you think some of the large hardware-based vendors are dragging their feet? Will managed services be enough to replace all of that hardware revenue?

Re: Um...er...
All of the major technology suppliers either are already well down the path to this business transformation or are scrambling to get there. It's not as though CSPs are being left to their own devices (yes, unfortunately, pun intended).

Re: Um...er...
One motivation of 'using your own team' must be to build up enough in-house expertise to sell these solutions to enterprise customers. Need to do more than reduce costs, right?

Re: Um...er...
Yes, I can see that.
I guess teaching and informing people from within your own unit can educate them so they can grasps the ideas. I think it could reduce the prices maybe? Keeping a small team of people together in a team for a company could do that.

Also... a significant fraction says..
The pie chart also indicates that about 26% of the poll takers favor not doing anything in the short term...

I hope you agree because it is quite a moving target because the future is not fully settled yet--or is it?

using your own teams
It would make it a lot easier for NFV had their own team would make things things better.
I'm not convinced....
The point of NFV in a Service Provider is to increase service velocity while providing a lower delivery cost. At senior levels in the Tier-1's, there is a recognition that OTT is eroding their revenue, the cost of data delivery keeps going up and the price pressure from the customer is becoming painful. Internal development only increases the cost of the solution while locking the SP into an internally delivered solution that is not easily replaced and becomes a burden to maintain. I don't dispute the results of this poll, but I wonder how many respondants are IT professionals working for the Service Providers that have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.
Re: I'm not convinced....
Well, it is just an online poll. We've seen in previous polls how widely opinions can vary between service provider employees, for example, and polls here on TT. It would be interesting to be able to poll various sectors to see how the priorities differ.

Re: I'm not convinced....
@Orchestr55627 - great insight. I think it could be to "preserve the status quo" - or as Mike points out could be a prevalent view among certain sectors. I also believe that it reflects the growing realization that a "platform" design is most beneficial in transforming to NFV. You really have to create a new capability.
