What's a little strange is that so much of the new economy is tilting toward "rent" instead of "own." Technology suppliers recognize this, which is why they're moving quickly from selling boxes and solutions to more of a managed services model. And after all, that's what the cloud is about as well.

You've gone deep quoting A-Rod. :) So maybe that's the way to go early on and then do the training/cultural transformations bit by bit.

To steal a line from Alex Rodriguez, this is kind of the pink elephant in the room. The focus of much of the telco transformation debate has been on the need for CSPs to undergo massive cultural and organizational changes to make this stuff happen. I would think that outsourcing the processes related to transformation would be the more practical and less painful approach, but it's not one that's getting talked up that much.
