Re: Industrie 4.0
@Mike Yes, there's that. Competitors do tend to try to get a leg up rather than help each other out. So much so that when they do , likely they will be suspected of working together in a negative way like the investigation of collusion for American airlines in 2015.
Re: Industrie 4.0
@Ariella, that may be true, but I was thinking that since they compete with each other for customers they really don't want to work together on anything. But hey, it will all eventually be IP anyway, right? :)

<I have a hard time seeing competitors here in the U.S. sitting down to decide what is best for consumers and the industry overall, > @Mike I agree, it is a rare thing for competitors to get together. When they do, they run the risk of getting in trouble for running afoul of the Anti-Trust laws
Re: Industrie 4.0
Any kind of Internet of Things effort requires cooperation between multiple different private companies. It's easier to see that happening in Europe or Asia than in the fractious US.
Re: Industrie 4.0
Iain, I have a hard time seeing competitors here in the U.S. sitting down to decide what is best for consumers and the industry overall, but maybe Germany can be an example.

Re: Industrie 4.0
Yes, a few of the German companies I've spoken with about Industrie 4.0 have remarked that the US efforts are very industry-driven, while German ones are being directed by the government as well as research associations. Question is which approach will work best.
Industrie 4.0
Interesting to read that the various entities, including the government, get to together to study standards and reference models for Industrie 4.0. We don't have that sort of collaborative effort across the board here in the U.S.
