Statistics
"...in 2015 there were 400 million cellular IoT connections and that's forecast to grow by seven times to 3 billion cellular IoT connections in 2020."
This statistic is believable since most consumers have multiple cellular devices. At one point I had three cell phones in addition to an iPod and laptop plus a wireless printer.
It is difficult nowadays to have just one IoT connection due to aggressive advertising and since most consumers use multiple devices for multiple uses.

Re: Smarter Business Models for NB-IoT
@srufolo1, It will be great when every city is a smart city. However, a smart city will only be as good the programmer who coded the smart technology. When it fails how long will it take to fix the problem and restore service to normal levels?

Re: Smarter Business Models for NB-IoT
@freehe Good point. Garbage in, garbage out (no pun intended). There are always mistakes made, and you're right, fixing them could cost time and money. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens with this.

Re: Smarter Business Models for NB-IoT
@ms.akkineni - exactly! And leadership is required because it does not naturally line up with the siloed and/or operational tactical structures that exist today. Leadership has to put them in a new context in order to open up space for larger collaboration, which in turn increases the overall capability.
Re: Smarter Business Models for NB-IoT
@freehe:
That is a good point. But certainly we have to go thru this phase of errors as the technology matures and stabilizes. At this stage developing good contingency options becomes very critical in this process.
Re: Smarter Business Models for NB-IoT
@srufolo:
Good points. Certainly we have to deal with detecting gaps in the process of evolution. Analyzing those gaps and moving along with corrections would be the right way to go forward. We will get to know more in real time as we go forward.
Re: Smarter Business Models for NB-IoT
@DHagar:
Very valid point that leadership doesn't lineup automatically. When leaders (be it individuals or companies) intervene, that's when great perspective gets added to the intiative thus yielding into capabilities.

@ms.akkineni, it can certainly make a difference. That's what excellent companies like Huawei are doing. I would dd the leadership and vision of telco transformation.
