Re: Desktop Vs Mobile
@Ariella:

Good Information. Obviously it is not realistic to expect not to do anything at an individual level. May be one day in future we can expect to see all integration with not much intervention.

The Maslow Connection
Did anyone find value in the whole "Maslow's hiearchy" relationship they have tried to construct? I'm not sure I understood the point of it.

@Adi I see what they were trying to show us, but I don't think they quite hit the mark. It doesn't really work...

Re: Desktop Vs Mobile
@Ariella I think you're right. All the tracking probably isn't helping... You must track and do something with the data. If you're not improving in some way it matters very little how much you track.

Re: Desktop Vs Mobile
@Michelle Yes, for businesses analytics are always supposed to provide *actionable* insight. But if the business does not take the actions recommended by the analytics then they are simply wasting their time and resources in running through all that data. The same applies to people quantifying everything about themselves without actually making necessary changes.

Re: Desktop Vs Mobile
@Ariella I think the issue is with habits. You start a new tracking program without giving any thought to how you'll actually use the data. Planning for data analysis can make a huge difference compared to data tracking alone.

@Michell you're right that habits carry great sway over people.

Yes that would be so useful! It would be interesting to see where these apps will head in the future!

Re: Desktop Vs Mobile
Ariella,

One advantage is for a certain personality type: the highly competitive.  At various times in my life I've been in pretty good shape from martial arts, handball, tennis, hare-and-hounds-racing, and parcourse competition (not Parcour, I'm not utterly mad, despite doing hare and hounds). But once you get too old to play effectively, the incentive for exercise kind of collapses.

There are gradually developing multiplayer shared world games out there (I'm only vaguely aware, I keep meaning to find some and see if there's something I'd like) that will let practically anyone at any level of fitness play competitively; that would get me to exercise!

(Spouse and I have been doodling around with an idea for a pedal-driven ion rocket so that we can virtual-bicycle race from low earth orbit to the moon.)

Re: Desktop Vs Mobile
Glad to see this statistics, so many companies make you believe everyone is doing everything on their smartphone.

I know I don't.

"While mobile usage accounts for the majority of time spent on social networks, there are still more people accessing social networks via the desktop today, according to a new report from web analytics company comScore Inc."
