@mhhf1ve this days it like Wild Wild West in Privacy almost everywhere... but Russia it other story... as in my mind I see it as the county runed by ex KGB Mafia with idea - hellbend to destroy our way of life... with lot of hate towards West... why I do not know???... I do not hate anyone, nor I have pre judgment against Russians... I only feel sorry about them... as hate is not a way to live by... it sad very sad... it like Cold War all over again... it only my opinion... how I see it... as example let say if I disagree with my neighbor... I try to fing resolution/solution to the problem... I do not hate, nor have any idea to start the fight or threaten... I follow the laws of the land... and if push come to shove I go to court to resolve the problem... violence is not an answer to any problem... negotiation and understanding opposing party point is a key to communicate and resolve it... but I'm old traditional school :) of life:) ...

Just saw this FindFace project -- that can identify people using photos. Combined with AR/VR goggles, and there's very little privacy left unless people stay "off the grid" and don't connect with anyone on Facebook or social media at all.

@mhhf1ve I see your point :) but in my mind VR and AR would live no privacy at all... but it techology way - How I see it :) I govern myself online the same way I govern myself in life... but I keep some of my ideas to myself :) only to myself... like back in 1980 in U.S.S.R.... history do take twist and turns and going back sometimes...

I wonder how "everyone watching everyone" will actually work in the Augmented Reality future.. People already post "Live" videos of themselves on Facebook and on Vine/Snapchat/etc -- so in a way, people are watching other people all the time (and occasionally those videos go viral).
I can't imagine how much "worse" things will be when AR/VR goes viral. Or maybe we'll all just be zombies watching VR kittens to calm our brains....

@mhhf1ve I know Icould do it :) but I do not bother about creating anonimity... as in my childhood days I spend time in Eastern Europe - where everyone watches everyone... it nothing new to me... I survive then... I will survive now... adaptability is a key... "say nothing see nothing you are no one with out name... :) " I just live it :)

Batye, you should still be able to set up VPNd and Tor in Canada, right? Those things won't help much when everyone is walking around with live streaming cameras on their heads, recording everything and uploading it to the cloud for machine learning algorithms to process. The only way to retain privacy might be to go off the grid completely.

@mhhf1ve our Canadian laws is a bit strange and we do have less privacy compare to USA citizens... but we have better healthcare..
in my youth days I work security and got good interactions with the cops and from what I know from last 10 - 15 years privacy things of the past in Canada... I just accept it... I'm not saying I agree or disagree - I just accept it as a way of life... New IT age...

Wow. That seems like an extreme way to live, but I suppose we're trending in that direction. I'm not so comfortable with that kind of lifestyle because it seems more than a bit creepy. It's like an episode of Black Mirror coming to reality.
Augmented Reality could become so useful that everyone will forgo their privacy concerns (if there's anyone left that still has them!), but I guess I'm not that much of an early adopter.

@mhhf1ve interesting point :) for me privacy is things of the past... I no longer expect any privacy anymore anywhere online or in real life... but time will tell what consumers want in exchange to have this technology...

AR just has a minor problem with creepiness and privacy. Not sure how or if those issues will ever get resolved fully or if everyone will just learn to live with greatly restricted privacy and some invasive and constant data mining.
