@Joe Stanganelli, very true.  It shows that the experts are not always right, when it comes to the consumer.

Also, I think it points out how much the lines are becoming blurred among service providers, content, suppliers, etc.    So the "unique capabilities" in one service line are diminished when moving into new services.  I believe this may increase as competition continues to grow.

@DHagar: Bezos has been criticized by UX "experts" -- to be sure -- when it comes to the general design of the website.

On the other hand, he and his company are tremendous successes -- while interfaces that UX "experts" love, like when Netflix changed theirs a few years ago, or like Google+, have been poorly received by actual users.

There's no accounting for taste, I guess -- "expert" or no.

@Mitch: Really?  Netflix used to have the newer Doctor Who episodes, but I guess it got rid of them?

Still, one ought to wonder at what point it's just more cost-effective/cheaper to buy the DVDs than continue to pay the subscription.

We subscribe to Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Hulu. Thinking of dumping Hulu, but it's the only place we can find 2005-current DOCTOR WHO. 

For consumers, there are just too many services, each one wanting $8 a month and offering only a couple of programs that consumers are actually interested in.

@Joe Stanganelli, see I am with you on this issue with Amazon.  They are really top notch with their service deliverables, supporting supply chains, all of that, but for all that capability I would think they would improve the quality of their UI and search capabilities lacking.  They appear "outdated" and clumsy in these areas.

I guess they can't be perfect in everything.  But you do expect a better experience because of their capabilities in these other areas.  Also, if they are truly trying now to compete with content/service, I believe they will have to improve in these areas and raise their game.

@DHagar: Amazon Prime does offer some content that nobody else seems to (DuckTales, anyone?) -- but personally I've found the UI unpleasant and confusing when it comes to searching for content.

@Michelle: I was under the impression that it's not even a matter of fewer ads -- that, on Hulu, whether you're a free member or a paid member at the lowest level, you get the same amount of advertising (the only difference being that paid members can access more content), and that if you pay for the top package you get zero advertising.

Am I correct or incorrect?  I haven't used Hulu in ages.
