Re: Amazon Prime
@vnewman yes, for my wife it was always this way from her childhood day, tv must be on in background...

Re: Amazon Prime
And let me clarify that I do realize a lot of people have dropped cable completely and only subscribe to one of the streaming services, but there are still plenty of people who have both. If I didn't have a kid I needed to keep entertained at inopportune times, I'd never have a Netflix account. That's all I use it for.

Re: Amazon Prime
@bayte - I think it has to do with how you grow up. The TV was always on in my house. I was also an only child before the advent of playdates and constant structured activities so I needed something to keep me occupied when it wasn't possible to go out and find other kids in the neighborhood.
It annoys my husband who thinks the TV should be off unless someone is "watching" it.

Re: Amazon Prime
@Bayte - This may be old fashioned and heresy, but I'm going to say it anyway.
Along those same lines, why not just DVR it on cable if you are talking about current shows? I enjoy the traditional "TV" experience and enjoy watching shows solely on the good old bube tube. I also enjoy listening to the radio - commericals and all. I know it makes me a dinosaur in that respect, but what can I say? I'm a traditionalist.
I also don't really "watch" TV when I'm "watching." I use it as background noise to accompany other activities like housework or cooking. I will listen and occasionally glance up to get a visual and continue on with what I'm doing. So to have it running on my computer where I have to "watch" it is a foreign concept to me. I see my niece sitting with her computer in her lap watching netflix for hours and I worry she's going to "sprout roots" like my old gym teacher used to say.
Let the flaming begin!!

Re: Amazon Prime
@Joe, Well, I've never thought of it that way, but you make a great point. Google seemingly has always had a cause, a calling, if you will. And when you have a calling, you have an agenda that isn't always clear to the rest of us. Amazon is "wysiwyg" at its finest - what you see is what you get. If you were to compare them to cities, Amazon would be NYC and Google would be Hollywood...my 2 cents.

Re: Hulu
@Ariella I don't know what the current ad model is for Hulu. I think it's silly to keep showing commercials to paid members. I might have signed up ages ago if not for the commercials shown to paid members. Online commercials are often buggy. Platforms that show them don't always do a good job serving commercials in the right intervals or they freeze the whole show (then you have start over and rewatch all the same commercials again).

Re: Hulu
@VN Thanks for the update. I work with someone who said this was coming, but it sounded more like a rumor than something they read in an annoucement somewhere. This is a promising addition to Hulu!!

Re: Amazon Prime
@batye, that's what the competition can hopefully create - a better package of choices that we value!
