Re: Being invisible offline
@Michelle I do still check it regularly, but there seems to be less going on there. I forgot to mention LI. That I look at once in a while for some links of interest. But most people just use it for self-promotion, so it gets tiresome.

Re: Do people really want this?
I think my recent conversations with Amazon's "customer support" on the phone supports your theory!

Re: Do people really want this?
So true! It took me 20 minutes to talk to a human at SDGE a couple of weeks ago. The automated system was impossible to navigate and kept leading to "dead ends". My friend taught me that slurring a bunch of nonsense syllables when it asks to describe what you need help with is the fastest way to get an actual person on the line! :)

I've heard that swearing a lot gets the bots to open up a line to a human being customer rep....

I believe that chatbots are the future, teach them well and let them lead the way...
I, for one, welcome our chatbot overlords.... even though I'm not convinced that ordering flowers will be any easier with a chatbot. I've used 1-800-Flowers.com's website to order flowers, and it's not exactly simple -- every step is designed to upsell you on some small thing, so just when you think you've picked out a flower arrangement that's not too cheap or too expensive, there are a half dozen more little things that could be added before you can checkout. It's the opposite of "one click" shopping. So I doubt a chat bot will eliminate the proven business process that's at odds with making purchasing simpler.

We'll eventually be annoyed by chat bots constantly asking "do you want fries with that?" in various ways....

Facebook Chatbots
I thought Facebook already had a chat area so this to me is just not needed and uncessary to add additional services etc.
