Re: Facebook open source project for 5G networking??
@batye:

5 to 10 in regular technology behind USA - depending on the price of implementation...

This is really surprisng to know. 5-10 years of lag time in technology is a huge concern. At the current rate and pace i can even say that some of the trends would just become obsolete.

How is Canada practically dealing with this? I always have a perception that US and Canada are almost at the same pace.

@Batye i see. Have you had to report for military service since then? Some Americans join serivces that train them and then have them work something like 2 weeks out of the year.

@mhhf1ve  I would say if there is a will - where is a way... plus money spend on the lawyers/lobbiest could change things... but public air safety could get affected...

Re: Facebook open source project for 5G networking??
It would be nice if Google Loon could work in North America... I'm not optimistic, though, that it will ever come to the US because we have too many FAA restrictions on our airspace. But maybe a Facebook drone will be able to get the proper FAA approvals.

Re: Facebook open source project for 5G networking??
I know Google Loon has been working on its balloons in the southern hemisphere, and I think they've almost mastered how to navigate their balloons using the weather patterns down there. It will be interesting to see if they can also do the same in the northern hemisphere.. and provide wireless effectively in North America!
