Level 3 Cloud Based Security
I'm all for Network Security and Security in general because we need it dealing with networking and communicating devices etc.  So Level 3 will need all the security and hopefully they will get in and more.

Re: Level 3 Cloud Based Security
What's changed from several years ago is that there are now products and services to fill this need for more security in the cloud.

Before there was nothing - bad for C-level folks from an optimization perspective.

Re: Level 3 Cloud Based Security
Hmmm. But I'm sure many organizations still are left wondering what happens when "cloud security" goes south? If there was an on-site security solution-- the answer is you get a guy you know scrambling in the building you work in. However, if you have everything in a cloud solution-- do you have a personal contact? And what happens if that person is swamped with multiple customers running into the same problem?

Re: Level 3 Cloud Based Security
@mhhf1ve, good question, but it looks like that they have developed the full capability and network to pick up with human intervention to respond when the system does go south.  At least if they have not, the technology exists to alert them, if not predict, and to provision for human interface to maintain the continuous integrity of the security level they are promising.  If that is the case, this truly is a better alternative.

DHagar, good to know. Sounds like a real improvement then. Who needs humans when automation can pick up most of the downtime?

@mhhf1ve - true, but hopefully that moves the humans "up" the supply chain to solve bigger problems and give direction to the machines.  If done in right perspective, it can be a win-win.

@batye You are totally right about the learning curve.

However, at this point we're not going back to the client server model. Cloud is the the future, and therefore it's time to adapt or go the way of Kodak.

Cloud Based Savings
I've got a feeling the savings will be closer to to 70%. We havn't quite hit the long run, but cutting cost in from the beginning is a good sign.

While the threat landscape continues to evolve, enterprises are seeing the cost and complexity of security solutions continue to rise. Level 3's expansion of Adaptive Network Security marks the next step in delivering adaptive networking solutions to break the hardware dependency cycle and reduce the administrative burden of trying to stay ahead of bad actors. Global businesses can leverage Adaptive Network Security for the latest security technology to keep their networks and workforces secure while they focus on what matters most to their business

@julialbert the way I see it as technology changes the need for better security keep grows and better harware need it - latest and greates do cost a lot but with time prices do go down, but hardware need to be upgraded to latest and greatest again...

The Kapensky hack and the resulting reporting (without getting too political here in TT) underscores what many of you folks have underscored--I am listening to Kurzweill reflecting upon AI--it seems to me that AI may be the "saving grace" to help save us?

Thoughts.....
