I wouldn't disagree with you when you think about the quality. But i am sure pretty soon we may cross that barrier with quality challenge.

Yet, what it lacks is you can't see sporting events, for instance, the Super Bowl yesterday. I had the wings, homemade bleu cheese dressing, homemade guacamole and chili but NO Super Bowl!

@srufolo1:

Absolutely, that is a true lack. So sorry to hear about that missing piece ....which is the most fun thing that time.

Seeing what you want when you want is certainly an attractive notion....

There you go, you got the point. And i am sure that's what is making Netflix a winner in that space.

Open set-top boxes are dead, too
Even before the FCC changed its leadership, the open rules for set top boxes were dying. But now they're completely six feet under -- And paved over.

Re: Transformation for 2017
Aha. Yes OTA TV just isn't what it used to be. I previously was able to get a lot of channels when it was analog -- since I was willing to put up with a bit of a fuzzy picture. But after the "digital transition" for OTA TV, the channels I get are either HD clear -- or they flash blue screens with some highly pixelated graphics. It wasn't such a problem before cable companies also switched fully to digital and dumped the analog channels that weren't encrypted. Now no one can just plug a TV in and expect it to work -- they call it Progress!

Re: Transformation for 2017
@mhhf1ve After I gave up cable TV (or they gave me up), in my desperation I bought something called a ClearTV "antenna" for $15 at Kmart. If that's what you mean by OTA TV, then, yes, I have it ... all 7 channels. I do get a major network, just not the one that monopolizes sports (Fox). I get the channels that cable doesn't own, such as Decades (where I've been watching Dick Cavett reruns. Saw interesting interviews with the likes of Salvatore Dali and Myrna Loy. TV was actually intelligent back then), GetTV, and Channel 55 (Judge Judy!) Someday I'll get cable again. Sigh ...

I suppose you don't get over-the-air TV then? I really wonder what the status of OTA TV is these days when so many people get basic cable TV and can't receive OTA TV broadcast. It used to be that if you were somewhat out of the range of OTA TV broadcast, you could still see a fuzzy picture and get audio... but with "all digital TV" -- it's much more binary -- you either get a clear picture, or you don't get a picture at all.

@ms.akkineni  After delving into Netflix, I now understand the concept of "linear" vs. "nonlinear" viewing. Seeing what you want when you want is certainly an attractive notion. Yet, what it lacks is you can't see sporting events, for instance, the Super Bowl yesterday. I had the wings, homemade bleu cheese dressing, homemade guacamole and chili but NO Super Bowl!

That's what I was thinking too. 99 cents is obviously a great price! However, I would rather have good quality and have to pay a little more over terrible quality and a super low price.

Re: Transformation for 2017
Wow..99 cents a month, that is a stealer for folks that love the option. I would also think about the quality of the service though at that price.
