I always thought Magic Jack was the cheapest solution?
That being said, it sure is ridiculous how much people have to pay for a landline. While I consider it non-essential, its one of the reasons cable providers started doing triple play deals for internet, cable and phone for a low price.

I remember considering Magic Jack at one point years ago, but deciding against it or some compelling reason or other that I can no longer remember.
In any case, yep, traditional landlines cost money -- but if you don't mind having a more limited plan, they can be very affordable. And even if you want something very flexible, they're on par with pricing for cell plans.

@Joe Stanganelli when I get cable internet I got Magicjack with hope to start using and get rid of land line... but after using Magicjack for few time I give up and put away... for me Magicjack too many problems if compare it to basic land line... but to each his own...

@mpouraryan for emergency I have few old CB radio's hidden away from my wife as I keep buying them from recycle store... in military I use CB radio, in security I use CB radio... I hope in civil life I do not have to use CB radio but better to be prepared...

@freehe good point - this why some Co. this days use social media on facebook and adding this videos on they Co. FB page with hopes user will see it and click - like on it :)

@dcawrey same with Canadian service providers where they offer TV/Home Phone/Internet/Cell phone as a packaged deal... with lower combined total price...
