Expectations of Connectivity
""The expectations are changing, [and] devices are now expected to be connected," noted Srinivasan, arguing that today's end user fully expects and demands connectivity for anything that costs $100 or more." ----I was reading recommendations for electric toothbrushes recently and people were talking about which ones are Bluetooth enabled. At first I thought it was some dental pun - but apparently connectivity is a toothbrush feature now. (And now that I know that's an option, I feel like my toothbrush is woefully inadequate for not being able to provide me feedback on my phone as I brush)

Re: Expectations of Connectivity
After years of hearing "I don't want my toaster to talk to my refrigerator," I think Joe makes some good points about how companies are already benefiting from IoT. I would much rather read about real world benefits, challenges, applications, etc. that another research paper on how many billions of sensors we'll have by 2020.

Curious to see what the Community thinks about this crossing the newswire right on on the latest news by Comcast...maybe they're seeing something:

Re: Expectations of Connectivity
What is critical is this:  iOT is here and anyone who ignores it does so at their peril.  The question is who will be left standing.

I agree with you @batye--but remember this:  without risk, there is no reward.   That's at the heart of transformation

I disagree @bayte--it is precisely at the more challenging economic times that the greatest risks have to be taken--and yes the odds are against you as I have come to realize about my own current startup @DailyOutsider.

Wishing you all a great Friday..and a great w-end

Thank you @bayte--it has to do with culture...and an acceptance of risk     But not trying should not be an answer--it never is.

@batye:

I may have a slightly different opinion on this. Though most like playing safe game, there are still quiet some players that opt ofor risk. And that's where teh invetion and evolution begins. Ofcourse not all the risk reaps into success all the times but there will be a chance at least.

IoT Advances
This is an exciting time for technology especially IoT. There are so many possibilities. I like the statement.

"What the premise has been over the past few years is that the world is moving from products to services -- [and] the power of the cloud is making IoT bigger and better."

IoT has shifted IT market. It has allowed any size company to use IoT to generate revenue and has eliminated the leader board because any company can be a top contender with the right expertise, tools and innovation.

I agree. I believe there needs to more risk involved in order for something great to come from it. It could always back fire, but they'll never know until they take that leap.

IoT Revolution
IoT has definitely impacted businesses in all industries. It allows companies to analyze data in a new way. However, this requires a specialized skill set that most companies do not have and would require hiring consultants with the skill set. In addition, it is great to use IoT but it requires the right skill set, and knowledge of how to capture, store, analyze and retrieve the data so it can be monetized to generate additional revenue streams.

Re: IoT Revolution
So true and I didn't even think of this! It's great to have the technology and devices, but if the companies don't have people who know what they're doing with it, what's the point? You need experienced people to make it work.

Appreciate the link  @mike and Mari is as always quite perceptive :  I should have been a bit more detailed(too little coffee!!).  What I was driving it is this:  they seem to embrace the iOT PhPhenomenonn more ways than one--including going after the essential infrastructure that may end up the "holy grail".

I hope I am reading the "Tea leaves" the right way
