Viacom
Interesting given that some small cable operators here in the US, Suddenlink comes to mind, decided to drop Viacom instead of pay more.

Re: Viacom
Telecommunications company operate differently in other countries, technology is more advanced and customers are eager to try the latest technology no matter what the cost. In the U.S. companies and customers are more reluctant to embrace new technology especially with large companies.
Re: Viacom
I don't think it was a matter of adopting new technologies and services with Viacom/Suddenlink but more a line being drawn in the retransmission sand by Suddenlink. Guess it's Altice's problem now.

Re: Viacom
Mike Robuck, I see your point, makes sense. Sometimes companies have to respond that way.

Re: Viacom
It amazes/saddens me that the US is so far behind other countries with respect to the quality, speed, cost and access to the internet.
I'm guessing that infrastructure and consumer demand aren't all that drives that though...government red tape probably has a impact as well.

Re: Viacom
Yes me too!
Especially with the cost of how much the internet and other devices cost over here! It's become somewhat crazy the prices people have to pay in order for a device or service.

Re: Viacom
This is wht I love about a free market system. Sometimes you have to roll the dice, but at the end of the day the companies that offer the best value at the best price are going to outlast everyone else. Viacom may cost a little more now, but may be a much better value in the near future.

This is how to remain relevant
I completely believe that a large reason for the success of Viacom is their ability to adapt to a changing audience. Today's viewers aren't stuck in their living rooms watching their massive televisions eating TV dinners. They are watching what they can access on their cell phone while they sit in an Uber car, or ride the underground. Create content that is easy for them to access in their settings, and you will automatically have a large fan base. This is brilliant.

Re: This is how to remain relevant
As of late, Viacom has been under some serious scrutiny for not doing so well. These new distribution outlets will hopefully help ease the pressure on a company that is paying its executives a lot of money for pretty poor performance. This is why they are trying new distribution options. It's because they haven't adjusted to digital as well as their rivals.

Why are they not being aggressive in the US?

Courting UK
I think this is great teaming up with UK becaus this means more revenue and services and more business ventures.
Re: Courting UK
One thing that is a cloud over Viacom right now is Sumner Redstone as I reviewed the coverage of his trial and his testimony--which was in and of itself tragic. I wonder how things will play itself out as Viacom tries to ensure business as usual with such strategies.....
