Managing the Big Video ExplosionThe number of Internet users, the amount of time they spend online, the number of devices they use to access the Internet and the number of applications they use, are all growing dramatically. Cisco estimates that annual global Internet traffic will be more than 1 zettabyte by the end of this year, and will nearly triple in the next five years. Already, 70% of this traffic is video. And it is set to be more than 80% by the end of 2020, driven by 4k/UHD, HDR, video communications and virtual reality, not to mention a growing base of subscribers to Netflix, YouTube and other OTT providers. We call this Big Video. Given this unparalleled growth in video services, service providers must transform their network technologies to better manage this flood of traffic and adapt business practices to find new avenues of profitability. The Video Transformation track on this site aims to provide the insight and information that operators will need to make key strategic decisions to not just cope with, but actually benefit from, the Big Video Explosion. The new track will host unique content managed, moderated and generated by our editorial team and industry experts, who will share their views via blogs, live online radio shows, video interviews, webinars and more. In addition, the team has recruited an Advisory Board of senior service provider executives tasked with managing Big Video for their organizations. These board members will help guide the Video Transformation editorial team's efforts to focus on the key trends, pain points and opportunities that are shaping business decisions at their organizations. Our recruiting efforts are quite advanced at this point and you'll soon start to see content coming through from interactions with them. But we'd also like to gain insights, commentary and opinion from everyone involved with the industry and create an active community addressing Video Transformation issues. Some of you will already have seen some of our Video Transformation-oriented content on the site, so this probably comes a little late. Of course, introductions are best made when you walk in the door, but in the fast moving world of Telco Transformation that isn't always possible. So better late than never, right? — Aditya Kishore, Practice Leader, Video Transformation, Telco Transformation |
