You Down With IoT? Yeah, You Know MeTwo of the winners for the Telco Transformation caption contest, which focused on the Internet of Things, had an old school vibe. The potential problem of going old, old school is the risk that some people may not get the captions because they refer to things that happened before they were born, before cell phones, and before the transcendent use of "covfefe." But to paraphrase an author that was popular generations ago "I'm just an old fart with my memories and my Pall Malls." Taking home the top honor, and a $150 gift card, is vnewman's caption: "Ok, but this is the last time I sing it for you guys. 'We got to install microwave ovens, custom kitchen deliveries. We got to move these refrigerators we gotta move these color TV's...'" Imagine an era, people, when MTV played videos full time. Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" was bigly in the early days of MTV, and this song even featured Sting singing in the background.
Elizabethv's second-place caption "That's right, coffee pot was fired. Coffee is for closers," is a take-off from a famous line in the 1992 movie Glengarry Glen Ross, which was adapted to "because cubicles are for closers, Marge" in a Simpsons episode where Marge worked in a real estate office. Taking third place was Joe Stanganelli's "Psst. Is it just me, or is that a gas stove?" Although "Dammit, Eddie, did you have fish for lunch again?" was pretty good as well. There were lots of great captions over the 19 pages of comments. Thanks for taking the time to add some humor to the site and we'll get the next caption contest going soon.
