Virgin Media announced the top ten communities that will have the opportunity to tap into the cable operator's FTTP broadband project on Monday.
The ten communities, including four in Scotland, earned the most votes in the UK cable operator's Supercharging Local Communities initiative, which is part of Virgin Media's Project Lightning network expansion. Customers in the ten cities will have to access to speeds of up to 300 Mbit/s once the FTTP builds are completed.
Virgin Media Inc. (Nasdaq: VMED), which is owned by Liberty Global Inc. (Nasdaq: LBTY), is looking to connect at least 1 million homes and businesses in the near term with Project Lightning while targeting a total of 4 million homes by 2019.
