German telco Deutsche Telekom welcomed 53,000 new subscribers on to its "Entertain" IPTV platform in the first quarter of this year, which was down from the 73,000 Entertain customers that were added in the same quarter a year ago.
At the close of March, Deutsche Telekom had a total of 2.74 million customers signed up for Entertain. It's targeting more than 3 million by the end of the year.
On the fiber-optic front, Deutsche Telekom said it has now installed 5 million lines, including VDSL/vectoring and FTTH, in Germany. Those lines are being used by branded customers and leased to competitors.
In the first quarter, the company added 660,000 new fiber-optic lines, which were the most lines that Deutsche Telekom has added in a quarter.
Driven by upgrades in the core elements of its networks and the move towards IP, Deutsche Telekom AG (NYSE: DT) said it invested 2.8 billion euros, or $3.2 billion, towards capex in the first quarter of 2016. First-quarter investments grew by 12% compared to the same quarter a year ago.
