@mpouraryan, I was not intentionally leaving us out - we are part of the success - but a good leader makes good followers and together the product/services system works!
So we can applaud ourselves as well. But the leader gives us the "space" and "resources" - so I like the design as well.

Or it's a cycle. For a while, customers are happy to buy services and leave the hardware and operation to the vendors. But vendors keep pushing hardware prices down (via demanding better tech and lower prices from their suppliers) and making operations simpler (for obvious internal reasons like fewer failures and lower wages). Eventually the day comes when some customers start to say "Why don't we just do this for ourselves? It's not expensive or difficult."
Suddenly dispersal, on-site,and autonomy are the big words, and the wheel turns again.

@batye, interesting point. What is the value component that you envision is analogous with bitcoin? What is the specific value proposition that you are seeing in bit coin and what are your thoughts as to its full potential in the market?

@JohnBarnes, as always - well stated. Yes, it is a cycle - which is what is supposed to keep the systems growing, adapting, and adding value.
Because of the ultimate ROI and costs of independent vs. economies of scale, I am wondering if we won't see a more consistent model now with virtualization - now that the cloud hybrid concept is really taking hold? We have adapted to "connectivity" with the internet, I am wondering if the idea of building your own will still hold the same cycle of appeal in the future or if we will create new alternative equations - based on NaaS VNF, etc.

What I think we all have learnt is indeed it is never ending. The challenge is for us to harness that change in a way that is responsible, accountable and continue to keep the human element in perspective--what I have underscored throughout our deliberations.
