Data can be a touchy subject, especially when consumers find out it's been misused, but there's no denying it's the lifeblood of digital transformations and can be very powerful for enterprises (when used right).
Recognizing this, Telefónica SA (NYSE: TEF) announced plans this week to help enterprises develop data applications to use internally and to sell to their clients. These big-data-as-a-service products, developed in partnership with Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. , will be marketed by the carrier's data unit, LUCA. At launch, Telefónica says they will include:
The services are all designed to be used by the enterprises on-demand over any infrastructure as a way to speed time to market and reduce costs. The pair will initially offer it over Telefónica's cloud infrastructure in Latin America, but say to expect expansion into new services soon, including with an application market for big data and analytics applications from partners.
"Our portfolio combines these tools with consulting and analytics capabilities as well as with business insights derived from our data, delivering end-to-end solutions to companies and public entities, which want to capture the value of data," LUCA CEO Elena Gil said in a statement, adding that Telefónica is committed to becoming the "travel companion of our customers in their digital transformation journey."
