Juan Carlos López Vives, CEO of Telefónica Business Solutions, discussed his company's digital revolution during this Huawei Connect 2016 address in Shanghai this past summer.
Good afternoon. Thank you Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. for the invitation to this conference. I think this is the last presentation of the afternoon. That's a problem for me, because most of the things I wanted to cover in my presentation have been covered by all the bright people who have been doing presentations this afternoon. So I will try to focus on different angles of the things that have been discussed this afternoon.
First, we are really facing the digital revolution right now. I think it's clear with all the things that we have discussed. That digital revolution is bringing disruption to all the business models. So companies need to adapt and evolve the way they perform their business, or die. Based on the interaction with customers across the world, we have seen millions of different kinds of companies that we name intelligent companies or intelligent enterprises. Let me discuss with you what the characteristics of those companies are.
The first characteristic is that the core of the companies is data or information. They don't have their core physical assets; what they have is the way they manage the information that they collect and they hold from their customers and from their processes. So we look at the characteristics of those companies: They know their customers in a completely different way than other companies do. They have information, and they collect information from every interaction they have with their customers.
The second characteristic that makes a difference is their processes. Probably some of you remember the first time you joined a company, and you should have received a book that says "these are our procedures, these are our processes." In the past that was really sound. It was the processes and they remained stable for years. Now the characteristic of those companies is that the processes are agile, that they change, they adapt to the customers' needs and to the environment.
The third characteristic is talent. There is a lack of resources that are able to properly manage information and extract value from that information. So that talent, the people who are able to do that, it's asking for a completely different environment, and they work in a completely different thing.
And the fourth characteristic of an intelligent enterprise is ecosystems. Companies reach a completely different scale and scope because they leverage ecosystems. And dealing with ecosystems is something that is difficult. You need to understand how to do that, and you need the right technology. So all the characteristics are leveraging on a safe and hyper-connected environment.
We have been talking about cloud the whole afternoon. Those companies manage huge volumes of data, and they need to do that just in seconds to react to the customers' demands. So those companies are the ones that are now challenging all the business models of the different industries.
