Seen & Heard: EU Wants Amazon, Netflix to Include European ContentNext week, the European Commission will look at a proposal that will require streaming services, such as Amazon Prime and Netflix, to reserve at least 20% of their catalogs for European content. The European Commission is overhauling the European Union's broadcasting rules in an effort to boost the consumption and funding of European TV shows and films, according to a Reuters story. The Commission is planning to announce the quota proposal on Wednesday, along with a law banning "geoblocking." Geoblocking treats customers differently by routing or blocking content based on a customer's country of residence. — Mike Robuck, Editor, Telco Transformation |
