Vodafone 5G First Call
Huawei is working with Vodafone to start commercial trials. Implementing a 5G call in Spain was a huge accomplishment for the country in digital transformation.

It is great to see companies in different countries partner together to implement a new technology.

Vodafone 5G Call
The 5G call had speeds that are eight times faster than the current 4G standard.

Vodafone made the call from Castelldefels near Barcelona, to Madrid using the 3.7 GHz bandwidth that will be included in the rollout of 5G.

"Huawei is totally committed to the development of the technology of the 5G network and today's test shows the maturity of 5G development on the standards approved by the 3GPP," said Yang Chaobin, the president of Huawei's 5G product line.

Vodafone
Does Vodafone have proof of the 5G call? A company can say anything but unless they have proof it is hard to substantiate their claim. If there some entity or company that can certifiy that the call was 5G?

Huawei was a partner on the 5G call.

Coincidence
What a coincidence....Just this morning i read about AT&T's plan to roll out 5G network into 12 cities by end of 2018 and they announed first three cities in the list - Dallas, Waco and Atlanta. AT&T will announce rest of the cities in coming months. Sprint and T-Mobile have similar plans targetted for 2019.

Response Times
The operator used a dual 4G-to-5G connection for the voice call, and a 5G data connection for the video call. It said it reached speeds exceeding 2Gbps and latency of 10 milliseconds.

That is interesting piece of information to know that they chose to use dual for voice call and exclusive %G data for the video and it makes sense for video call. In any case i think response times are not bad at all.

Re: Vodafone on 5G
@afwriter:

Agree with you that this is a small achievement, but could be a worthy milestone for Vodaphone. It is certainly interesting to wait and watch how much of an impact this would create in terms of customers gaining confidence.

Re: Vodafone on 5G
This is cool, but I guess I'm more underwhelmed by this news than I thought I would be. Still, I wonder how this small achievement will affect consumer confidence in Vodafone in the future.

Vodafone on 5G
This is a great move for Vodafone and I particularly like the part about the video call to make it easier when you are using 5G data etc.
