5G Wars Heating Up in Australia
Telstra is a company that is putting its money where its mouth is in its demonstration of 5G and what it can accomplish. This is an ingenious use of 5G to help lifeguards detect distressed swimmers in the ocean. Impressive. Hope that technology comes to the U.S.!

Re: Use Case
True. After all, who can argue with saving lives? As an aside it is extremely difficult - even for seasoned, trained lifeguards - to accurately detect swimmers and surfers in trouble in the ocean. It takes a level of vigilance which can be hard to maintain in crowded waters. If AI can assist in identifying those in need of help it would be truly an amazing feat.

@vnewman And if other projects are any indication, the actual cost will be even higher.

A billion dollars isn’t too bad. Constrast that with the estimated cost of the US upgrade - $275 billion according to Accenture.

I think Telstra's strategy was brilliant here. They not only showed what they could do with 5G but they created an urgency to adopt it. It was a great way to get everyone involved and make the public understand and want the things that 5G can offer.
