Re: SK
Maybe we'll all be surprised when Iceland or Singapore turn out to be the first...

Re: SK
I went with SK too for all the reasons you mentioned, their relative size, and from other things I have read it sounds like they are poised to be the first on proverbial 5G Moon.

Re: SK
I doubt South Korea will turn on the US at any point in favor of its norhern neighbor. Sure, it's great that they want to be closer, but the economically poor regime has not much else to offer SK besides not tweeting scary remarks about war.

Maybe SK will turn against our so-called POTUS... but I don't think that has much bearing on their stance towards the rest of the US.

Re: SK
@mhhf1ve - Pointing out land mass is a really critical aspect to think of where 5G is concerned. I should have thought my answer through a little more, because that alone puts them at a significant advantage. And I don't think their neighbor to the north will be a hindrance. They seem to be cozying up to the south right now. I've read speculation that they are hoping to buddy up with SK and then turn SK against the US. It actually seems like a fair argument. And they certainly seem to be taking steps to do so lately.

Re: SK
That's crazy that toddlers and babies had cell phones on lanyards around their necks! As a parents I can't even begin to imagine making that decision. And I know how quickly kids learn that cell phones are "fun." My now 9 month old loved to play (chew) on my phone from the time he was 4 months old. But handing him my phone when he's fussy in line at the grocery store is hardly the same thing as getting him his own phone.

If I had to pick an "other".. I'm wondering why Finland was left off this list?

Re: SK
I think SK is the best bet, too. It has the history of adopting wireless tech early, and it doesn't have a huge land mass to cover. Also, it already has a leading position in broadband adoption -- so there is a virtuous cycle that can be fulfilled. More people will want the latest and greatest connectivity because there are already people who have the latest wireless tech.

The one concern is their northern neighbor might set them back a bit.... if political tensions between its dictator and others doesn't subside -- and instead escalate.

SK
I went with SK, which has a long history in the modern era of being ahead of the tech curve -- particularly in cellular technology.

When I visited the country many years ago, back when cell phones were just barely starting to see some mainstream adoption in the US but were still mostly toys, literally everyone I met had at least one cell phone (usually multiple cell phones). Even toddlers and babies had cell phones -- real ones, not toys -- on a lanyard around their necks.

Moreover, the data/bandwidth/latency demands in South Korea are quite high -- particularly because of the strong gaming community there (as then CenturyLink exec Gahn Lane and I discussed in a Telco Transformation interview last year -- link)
