Re: No time like the present
And that doesn’t necessarily mean forgetting everything of the past. But learning to process new advances and bring your old knowledge into the situation.

And it’s also a great learning process. To be able to work with our technology today, like you said, will greatly influence future technology.

No time like the present
Seems to me like Telcos will be able to handle 5G pretty well in the future. Working well with present technology is always a good idea, especially if it helps with future tecnology.

Re: Current Resources
Smaller organizations are indeed more agile. That will aid in this tranformation from older networks to these newer generations. Larger organizations have more complex systems and as such it's much harder to spur change. Agility is key here.

Re: Current Resources
@freehe - I agree completely. Companies need to be secure in their footing before they work on expanding and bringing in new technologies. Even though 5G sounds enticing and promising, being smart is definitely the way to go. If they roll out with a concept they aren't completely ready for they could end up shooting themselves in the foot, and worse off than they were when they started.

Funny
Mavrakis is hilarious when he said that telcos have no clue about VR and AR. I agree with him in that telco companies should start doing R&D on these technologies if they are considering moving to 5G or even gigabit LTE.

Current Resources
It is interesting that Mavrakis stated that telcos need to use what they have now before moving on to new technologies. Open source will provide a lot of new opportunities for companies. It is critical that companies have an adequate infrastructure in place before embarking on 5G.

Telco Cloud
There will be a lot of challenges to implement telco clouds, 5G and other technologies beyond 2018. Since the market hasn't changed, companies lack adequate skill sets, and standards do not exist in each industry it will be difficult to move forward at a rapid rate. R&D takes time, when will companies realize this?
