Very much what I'm thinking. A big part of technical maturity is getting through to the "it just works" point (e.g. where most cars stopped having a clutch, all of them stopped having a choke, and people didn't have a few breakdowns a year; where tuning the television to a station meant just selecting a number; where millions of home computer users have never seen a line of code or a terminal prompt). But once cloud-to-cloud switching is automated, fast, and invisible (and cheap --and you're right, the cost won't be zero, but it's likely to be unimaginably cheap by our standards), it will all happen at the managed service level, with most providers no more aware of it than most gas station owners know what happens at the refinery.

@JohnBarnes: It seems to me going back to the private cloud is about control. 5G will need more control because multiple clouds are involved and performance management for service generation will be critical. I am not sure that moving back to the private cloud is necessarily as frictionless as it seems in theory. Expanding the private cloud would mean leasing more transportation capacity from the service providers and building management and orchestration capability. Of course, managed service providers could do it all in the background while those who provide the service worry only about the platforms and innovations.

There's an interesting phenomenon in that shuffle back and forth between public and private cloud that I don't think I saw forecast (maybe I didn't look in the right places at the right times). The speed and ease with which it's possible to move functions from private to public cloud (and even back and forth between some versions of local systems) means that it can cut costs or enhance results for even very, very small, constantly shifting margins. So unless what's actually coming is One Big Supercloud, competition between cloud-based services is going to run on very small immediate margins, with constant service-hops. Tough time to be a supplier but a great time to be a buyer.

@clrmoney, I agree. The article states Asia is exploring OpenStack which is good. The more popularity OpenStack gains the more popularity I hope will be gained for deployment of 5G. Hopefully this will help 5G get implemented by 2020 as promised.

I think that this will be very interesting to see how this plays out because 5G and Cloud based technology is great for business. The 5G will offer more data for products and services and the Cloud will compliment in all together as one so overall it is positive.
