Re: Nice!
@Kishore - That's awesome! And I would assert that it's genius to limit the field of view to what's actually needed. Especially where the world of sports are concerned, this is certainly important. I have to wonder if there aren't Telco companies that would protest the thought of the United States not attending sheerly based on this information alone.

Re: Nice!
The countdown to deliver on VR Streaming has begun and will be on full display at the Olympics in South Korea. Cloud-native technologies help to slice the stream to only what is needed in the field of view of the user. Lots of management issues but not bandwidth.

Re: Streaming video is aiming for where the puck *was*...
Sure, but consider that LTE data rates can get up to 50mbps -- and compare that to a dial up modem line not too long ago or even some existing DSL speeds. Fiber optics are essentially lasers trapped in glass, but if someone can figure out how to get similar performance without needing the optical guide of glass fiber -- we could have some pretty impressive line of sight wireless broadband.

@mhh: That's a tall order, considering that wireline is already up to -- what? -- 600G?

Exactly. Mobile broadband won't really be distinctive until it can do what wired broadband can do and more.

@mhh: I just conducted an interview (Stay tuned!) where the executive I spoke with shared similar sentiments to yours. 5G allows more features and greater scalability, but right now the focus seems to be more on mobile in general -- regardless of the number preceding the "G".

@elizabethv: Streaming VR would be kind of hard to do, but it sounds like Viacom 18 in India has been innovating here for EDM festivals. (link to my coverage for Telco Transformation)

Streaming AR, of course, would be a relative breeze. What if you're not just looking for Pokemon, but watching and waiting to see what they do?

Re: Nice!
@afwriter: Shucks! I somehow missed IoT on this list among everything else.

Oh, well. Maybe I'm engaging in some post hoc rationalization, but I stand by my mobile-edge choice. After all, IoT is leading to mobile-edge innovation/demand too. It's all going to flow through the mobile edge, I suspect.

Re: Chicken or Edge?
While on the prowl, did take some "thinking" to see what made sense--for me it was "IOT" as I view it as "all encompassing" which will, among other things, incorporate many of the things underscored....Interesting @JOE you charactericized it as a "chicken or Egg' :)

Chicken or Edge?
This is kind of a chicken-or-egg question for me here. I at first wanted to say streaming video, but I ultimately went with mobile edge computing because streaming is already igniting MEC demand/innovation -- which, in turn, will lead to greater 5G demand/innovation. So I went with MEC as the more direct "point of ignition".
