Re: Really?
Facebook has a similar (but worse) problem like Google for promoting its "new products" -- it can't openly push users to new services or features without some backlash saying that it's abusing its monopoly or forcing users into being guinea pigs. So I understand why Fb can't really promote its video content because it also wants the traffic to grow organically instead of needing expensive promotional ads that could be sold to its usual customers.

Really?
"It has also partnered with several content creators to produce video content specifically aimed at Facebook users, i.e., short-form, mobile-first videos." It has? I can't say I've ever noticed or seen anything on FB remotely plugging this. No wonder they are upset.

Re: Time of Death?
@afwriter - Your analogy of David versus Goliath is spot on. Awhile back I'd seen a kid's small business shared a name with a company that made janitorial products, I believe. There was no similarity whatsoever between the child's business they had started, and the other, more established business. But for whatever reason, the established business felt threatened, and had sent a cease and decist letter to the child's business. Even though the child's business had been granted a copyright, they did not feel comfortable trying to fight the established business. Instead, the parent's of the child decided to just eat the thousands of dollars in branding items they had purchased and rebrand the business, rather than fight. Bigger companies will always be able to bully smaller companies. It's how our country works.

Re: Time of Death?
YouTube is in a tough spot over trying to appease copyright holders and fair use allowances. It's not black and white what is and is not fair use. The US court system has made fair use a tricky defense because there are rules but exceptions to most of them that make it impossible to know with certainty that fair use is a solid legal argument.

Re: Time of Death?
I played around with a few videos and I may go back to it someday, but it is kind of a pain. They will call you out for stuff that should be fair use and threaten you. You can take it up with them, but you are David versus Goliath and it's not really worth your time in most cases.

Heh. I actually think that the brands of IoT appliances will remain intact.. even if the underlying operating systems are all Android or linux based.

@mhhf1ve an dw e may come to the oint in which people ask about which appliance people are using in terms of operating system rather than convenitional brands.

Re: Time of Death?
@mhhf1ve Hey, I'll take my good news where I can get it! But I do try to find out sources when I can. I followed up on one of the footnotes for health benefits of coffee cited here  https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/healthy-drinks/other-healthy-beverage-options/. It indicates that these are really serious studies worhty to be listed in PubMed, but sources of funding aren't in the abstract.

Indeed. I think we'll see a vast change when the IoT revolution actually becomes widespread -- and toasters, refrigerators.. and just about anything powered by electricity becomes an internet connected machine. It will be amazing how many things are running some version of Linux.....

Heh. I sometimes wonder, though, if those studies are sponsored by a coffee (or tea) industry consortium.... :P
