Re: What's Your Definition of Digital Transformation?
@JohnBarnes, like the charts!  And the value from the software is data translated into actionable and/or connected information that increases the information for decisions to be made effectively.

Re: Digital Defined
@dcawrey, very true.  If you don't have a culture and widespread employee use you do not truly have transformation, you just have implementation of IT products.

@dcawrey Good point, yes, that would be a good part of it.

Re: What's Your Definition of Digital Transformation?
I'm probably closest to Morawski.

For me the defining thing about a digital transformation is that hardware becomes more and more of a substrate and sofware more and more where all the action is. It's no longer what the gadget is, it's just what the software does on it. This enormously increases the potential speed of change and the benefits of various kinds of optimization, so the total effect is one of greatly accelerating evolution in both business practice and actual service delivery.

It's also a very hard idea to wrap our heads around, I think, because of the "future shock" idea built into it; we don't know yet whether the digital transformation is an exponential-function change (where we always live in a now where the historic biggest change just happened recently but is about to be eclipsed by a much bigger one) or it's a logistic-function change  (where we're living in the middle of a rapid transition between a past and a future stable state).

Re: Digital Defined
Yeah definitely! I think some of it has to just be learned over time with change, but like you said, some of it has to do with management. And can be taught!

Re: Digital Defined
I think a lot of this is really just change management.

Organizational workforces need to be up to speed on the digital chasm that seems to exist these days. There's a lot of teachable stuff in security for example.

Re: Digital Defined
Exactly. I think the more people have to become familiar with it, the more they’ll learn. I didn’t know much about smart phones 10-15 years ago and now I couldn’t imagine not having one.

Re: Digital Defined
Nicely put...I agree. Perhaps we should call it "digital (generational) transformation."

Digital Defined
I don't think it's that weird to me it's just is a challenge to people who are not very familar with it. Because the old school don't know anyhting about it but the new school milllenials etc. are more hip to it. People will become more onbaord with it or not.
