Re: Improve
@freehe: I tend to think that marketers will be the great undoing of VR because the whole prime benefit of VR is free exploration -- but product marketers won't like that and will instead try too hard to get people to "explore" certain areas...if not block them off entirely.

And then, what's the point of it being VR?

Re: Recommendations and Personal Guides
@mpouraryan: But are they GOOD recommendations?

This used to be Netflix's model. They used sophisticated, on-the-nose algorithms to determine what you'd like and not like and recommend accordingly.

That's what they used to do.

Now, they just spew out at you whatever it is Netflix thinks you should watch, and who cares what you the customer thinks.

Re: Recommendations and Personal Guides
@dcawrey: We turn to AI because of scale and complexity. We used to use the TV Guide if we were fancy; if not, we flipped channels. (Sometimes we did both.) Now, scale and complexity have forced us to stare for hours on end at seemingly unending lists of sub-mediocre shows and movies. We want AI to help.

Or so we say we do. Me? I think I want to go back to having a dozen good, competitive channels and a TV Guide (in print!) instead of hundreds of blah channels.

Re: Recommendations and Personal Guides
@ms.akkineni - I would assert we're already well on the way to that being the case, if we aren't already there. Someone that is on a Facebook page I follow posted the other day that he was "ISO You're a Kid" which a few people jokingly turned around as if he was making fun of everyone in general. Apparently he had written the post in Spanish, and his phone had automatically translated it to English when he posted it. He was actually looking for some kind of Mexican Haggis, according to his replies.

The possiblity is before us whether we like it or not--as underscored by what Facebook was up to where the Machine Languages began talking to each other before it had to shut it down--we need to guard against it--and I have repeatedly underscored it in my contributions here.
