AT&T Embraces AI
I not sure what AI/Artificial Intelligence will do for AT&T because AT&T has phone based customer support and products. I think it will be interesting so see how this all plays out.

It sounds like they might be creating a platform as good or better than Flox XO. There are plenty of other platforms available -- I just don't know about them yet. Now is probably a good time for AT&T to get into AI powered anything.

Agree with you. I think At&T is trying to make sure that they are not leaving any channels open. We are learning lately that they are getting to cyber security space. Now this effort is to get into AI. This is perfect timing to get into AI as the industry is trending towards AI capabilities in general.

@Michelle, as I understand it they are using a new technology, with their co-venture, and then developing the open forum on the AT&T platform that they have been building.  This may be a stroke of genius in building best-of-breed capabilities.

Their vision also fits their platform model, with virtual NFV, etc., to deliver new solutions and services.  I think it is a smart move.

@clrmoney it all depends on the A.I. technology and how it will be implimented as it could be a good or bad... some Canadian banks switch to A.I. technology for telephone banking and many times customers have to go in the branch to correct errors... even my wife have to see the bank manager twice to correct bill payment via telephone A.I.

@batye, Wow that is not good. It defeats that purpose of using AI. Companies will have to work hard to test AI technology. They will also have to create real-world scenarios during tesing before they deploy the services to the public.

@dir5288, I think that is what they have attempted to achieve in this co-venture.  If they build the capabilities with their AI partner, and deliver it through the platform they have been building, it may just provide the right elements.

They certainly get points for moving into new space and discovering what they need to know to succeed.  I also like their open source approach and invitation to groups to develop
"functional" standards.

Very good point about relyting on trusted sources. In general people get very interested about something new by someone new in industry. But when the time comes to pick a service by a company people always tend to lean to a trusted company. That's where the new companies struggle till they make a name in the market.

Very true and practical facts that play a role in switching companies. Ofcourse not to ignore the pricing plays a good role as well. In some cases for new comers, price could be one of the key weighing factors even though they come with expanded and improved services. Those only play a role once the company is stood in the market. Till that point average consumer only would think 'company XYZ is just hitting the market but with a heavier price tag'.

Can't agree more. Plans have become kind of just an artifact lately, unless you provide a supporting document that speaks about each milestone deliverable and what is the target result as an outcome. Everything has become outcome based. Sometimes this is creating significant challenges to project management community, as there are lots of activities that may not necessarily derive into a clear output. An example would be a four hour internal brainstorming session in preparation of a client meeting.

@ms.akkineni, great insight!  Absolutely, the ability now to put together the capabilities to achieve results, AND the decision to make the necessary commitments and changes to enable those goals to be met, is the whole package.  Deliverables, rather than wishes are winning today; when they are strategic it is value-added, when they are only tactical it can be just getting the same results faster with no greater value.

AI or not AI?
Trying to decode the announcement and coverage a little here... some questions:

1. Is there any new operational AI functionality being shared by AT&T into the opensource community with this? The article references some known examples of how AT&T is using AI, but it's not clear that these will be made avaialble openly as part of this.

2. Seems like this is more targeted at enterprise customers, and giving their IT teams a Salesforce-like app-store of AI-enabled component pieces. Is that right?

3. Is the platform what's being opensourced, or the application components that will ultimately be submitted into it (from third parties..)?

4. What's the wider business model for incentivising participants?

Certainly sounds like an exciting initiative, look forward to getting more detail/clarity...
