Re: Verizon
@freehe - Verizon is on it, and they drive me bonkers! I was so excited to be able to ditch them in August, but when I called to cancel the guy managed to talk me back into another two years. I told him my monthly bill was too expensive, he told me the montly plans of all carriers was pretty similar because the competition was so fierce. I knew he was wrong but I didn't have any hard numbers in front of me, and without actual data I always feel like I can't formulate a strong argument. So I gave in. My husband's contract is up next year, I'll investigate the situation a little more closely then.

Re: Verizon
The commercial side has better margins, while the consumer side is thin. This is why they are adament about billing. And limiting my hotspot to 15GB a month.

Verizon
It is funny how Verizon has so much money slated for so many new initiatives on the commercial side. However, it is surprising that on the residential side they will send a text message, email or call customers if their payment is just one day late.

Re: common
@Mike Robuck, Yes they are. Everyone said that no one would use mainframes anymore and they still use them. It all depends on what direction a company wants to go in and what there needs are.

Re: NFV Orchestration
@clrmoney, I agree. Any technology that provides multiple benefits is great. All techologies should function the same way - providing multiple benefits and options.

Standards
"What we're trying to understand is whether these open source developments replace some of the standards organizations. We don't have any preconceived notion about when, or whether, that will happen or not, but that's one of the things that we're following."

Development should never replace a standards organization. Standards organization are vital in ensuring that new technology remain consistent, understandable, feasible, and operable.

Question
"What other standards issues are you working on? What is fundamentally missing in NFV standards, with whom are you working on these issues and what is the goal so that we don't have 15 competing standards?"

You should never answer a question with a question. The meaning gets lost. FO should have just responded stating that they see more development of standards in NFV.

NFV Orchestration
This is great for NFV having orchestration which will give you the option of doing a variety of projects and things. I'll be looking for the outcome of this.

Re: common
The consensus seems to be moving away from VMs and towards microservices and containers, but like he said, work to be done on the latter.

<We need a common container environment to deploy these new applications that are being re-architected in containers.>

That makes sense, but are they assured it will happen?
