Agreed, it's all about the value-add. Once a vendor is able to prove they can do some things, customers will come back again as tech changes and offers more and more.

@dcawrey, good analysis and assessment.  This is what enables them to create true economies of scale in less complicated utility designs, and then focus on the more focused value-adding propositions to the use case - which is more complicated.

@freehe, thanks!  Additionally, it allows companies to provide more choices in solutions and models.  It really becomes an almost mass customization - which is of high appeal to the customers.  I think this is the new model of the future.

Networks and systems in larger organizations are always complex, full of a bunch of infrastructure that is custom-built. 

This is where it seems a lot of companies in tech want to come and and make things less complicated. Cloud and virtualization are the two big ones right now, that's for sure.
