SDN Poll
I like SDN/Software Define Networks because they have many technologies and software to make things better. Of course it will advance as time goes on with more billions.

"In the survey, 100% of the service providers were either already deploying SDN now or planned to do so in the near future."

I think this speaks volumes to the value of SDN and it importance in the future of business.

Re: Cool Stat
A lot does have to go in place to make SDN and NFV up and running.

For some organizations, it seems like there is a wait and see approach. Leading edge folks like AT&T and Verizon are leading the way, innovating ahead of the pack.

Re: Cool Stat
I'm a little surprised that the agility goal only garnered 5%. I've been hearing so much about agility lately that I would have thought it would be held in higher regard.

Re: Cool Stat
@Ariella - I have to agree. I would think any kind of agility would only be beneficial to both consumers and companies. Business models and plans, and even technology, isn't always as easy to predict as some might hope. Being agile would be hugely beneficial.

Re: Cool Stat
@Ariella: On the one hand, agility is kind of a catch-all. All of these other items can lead to agility. Consequently, agility is an indirect result.

But it's not all about gaining agility. It's also about reducing fragility -- a.k.a. complexity. Often you'll see inverse proportions here anyway, but they're not quite the same metric.

@dcawrey you have to have your tech leaders who are willing to jump in and work through the bugs and other hiccups you encounter with new technology. In some industries, they're just used to playing it safe and avoiding the risk that comes from applying what hasn't yet been throroughly tested.

@afwriter,  very true.  Plus they are the ones who can truly deliver value - which will further drive the development of the platforms and SDN networks.

"Managing flow" vs. "Apps and services"
As someone who picked the "Managing flow" choice, I'm a bit surprised it did so poorly. But, then again, there was some bleed-in between that choice and choices like "Applications and services" -- which tied for first. I tend to suspect other voters favored the latter even where they may have acknowledged the bleed-in themselves.

It'd be interesting to hear from voters of those options (and others) accordingly...
