Re: Survey: What are the Drawbacks to SDN?
@dcawrey, well stated!  Plus, it reduces the resistance to who has control.  When you are collaborating in developing something new, you end up creating an opportunity for everyone to gain from each perspective - which makes for better outcomes.

Re: Standardization SDN Growth
@dchampagne70 I think you're right. People are not usually excited -- in a good way -- about the prospect of paying more and losing privacy.

Standardization SDN Growth
My opinion is that people are not going to jump with excitement if you are moving their private files around and costing more money to do it.  I hope it wil grpw better than what it did before in the past.

From a business development and strategy perspective, it's good all the carriers and service providers have skin in the game.

Without that, what would be the incentive?

Re: Survey: What are the Drawbacks to SDN?
@Mike, excellent realistic point!  And they won't just throw out the legacy systems - most cannot afford to.  What has to happen is bridging the adoption of connecting with SDN and folding the old into a new architecture that moves that way.  That is where  I believe the modular architecture helps.

Then they can move their old legacy systems increasingly as utility systems and adopt incresing use of SDN.

@cweinsch, good analysis!  And you are absolutely correct with identifying these issues.  People need to gain familiarity with the benefits in order to tip the scales to tackling the barriers.

Re: SDN Growth
@dcawrey, I fully support your vote.  It makes sense on many fronts; there are too many variables to align without it.  I also like his approach with modularized architectures.  That enables you to design and delivery more specifically the capabilities and feastures you want.  It truly feeds a "mass customization" capability.

Re: Survey: What are the Drawbacks to SDN?
My "other" would be legacy systems with things like current OSS/BSS. The service providers are serving millions of customers and can't just cut over to SDN/NFV.

Re: Survey: What are the Drawbacks to SDN?
I think it is too much change to existing systems. People don't like it when you move their cheese, especially when it costs them money to do it.

Survey: What are the Drawbacks to SDN?
SDN has a lot of advantages, but it's a heavy lift. What are the biggest obstacles to SDN?

>Perceived lack of extensibility.

>Poor or unknown ROI.

>Too much change to existing systems.

>Too much specialty expertise required.

>Other (please specify below).

Follow question: Is any one of these disqualifying? Are they collectively?
