Re: User generated video...
@batye - no joke. New technology changes things repeatedly! Just in my short 34 years I've lost VHS and now DVD's. And I've had movies that I had on VHS and then DVD's and now I have digital copies, because I love them so much and watch them that frequently. I can't foresee any newer technology than digital copies, but then that isn't my job, and I'm sure something will come along. Like downloading movies onto a chip in your arm that you can play with a hologram. :-/

Never a dull moment--between Disney telling Neflix to take a hike..and now Altice wanting to take over Charter (as Charter said no to Sprint)--transformation on a massive scale before our very eyes!!

As the dust settles, anxious to see the view of the Community..."Virtually Breathless"!!

Netflix doesn't save the "good content" for its DVD by mail service. It actually has a better selection of DVDs because it doesn't need to license them. Netflix can just buy up DVDs from any legit source and mail them to you. But the "streaming rights" for most movies are more tightly controlled.

Interestingly, I think copyright law actualy forbids a "Netflix for music" -- in that it's illegal to mail people LP records instead of DVDs..... (Though who would want to..?)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts--you echo what I underscored exactly--as all content providers have to be truly paranoid.

@elizabethv interesting points, when I think about it... as this days everything become digital/stream - no one wants spend time looking for DVD's and spend time... technology saves time but with new technology keep developing you never know the way thing will turn out ...

@mhhf1ve - I feel like Netflix saves their DVD's by mail for the movies that I REALLY want to watch, since I don't even subscribe to them. Heck, I've been known to pay to stream a movie I own on DVD because I don't want to take the time to go find the DVD. But wouldn't it be ironic if it was a Blockbuster OTT that took down Netflix in the end?

@mpouraryan - I think there is a lot of newer technology that is allowing people to create videos that look more on the professional side, while be accessible to people who can't really afford the professional software. I have a few apps on my phone that let me do simple editing to some of my videos. When your subjects tend to be toddlers, who are un-cooperative by nature, those apps are extremely useful.
