Re: Red Hat Security for SD-WAN
@dcawrey:

No doubt that security has come to the front seat in organizations.

In the company that i work i am noticing major changes in terms of making IT security the most critical piece everywhere it is applicable. Any IT change is being scrutinized by IT security and security architeture teams. In the review meetings we get asked all security related details around data transfers, APIs used, service level security etc.

Re: Red Hat Security for SD-WAN
@ms.akkineni, true.  Plus we are beginning to learn how much the operational aspects within a company and how employees protect the security of data can affect the overall security level.  So that means in addition to layers, we need to factor in the policies, compliance, and culture.

Note:  The entire assessment of the breaches with Sony were more cultural than technical.  Interestingly, now Sony uses "fax" communication as one of its more secure transactions for confidential messages.  This way it is not networked.

Red Hat Talks Security for SD-WAN
"I think we'll still have to take a look at being able to build -- I'll call it -- a set-top box, with a router inside it, and with maybe some additional hardware as we see today in set-tops, to deliver to those higher things -- things like virtual reality -- that will likely show up at the edge of the network, or, as we call it, mobile edge compute, or multi-access compute."

Interesting how he still finds it important to be able to build set-top boxes.

Re: Red Hat Security for SD-WAN
@ms.akkineni Speed isn't the only thing organizations want these days. Yes, they want users to be able to be productive. But IT has to always be concerned about security issues. This is going to play a big part in the years to come as networks are transformed.

Re: Red Hat Security for SD-WAN
@dcawrey:

It is really good that Red hat is focussing into SD-WAN security. Besides speed and latency, ensuring security would be a great value for consumers. And by being open source opportunities for open systems are extensive to ensure security for their systems.

@DHagar:

Certainly there is a need for some reinvention to occur in security. New applications and designs would surely help. Layering is a great approah to come up various levels of security.

Re: Red Hat Security for SD-WAN
It makes a lot of sense for Red Hat to take this position. By being open source, a lot of Linux advocates have an opportunity to position open systems as being more secure. In this security-focused era, that's the right move to make.

I think that the fact that they are addressing it here shows that security is becoming a more important component for companies and the ones that are putting in the effort for security now will have more consumer trust in the future.
