For now. I think the tune may change if Red Hat is acquired someday. Imagine if Dell buys Red Hat. Or if Lenovo does? Or if HP...

Also, when it comes to companies like Orange, they sure are getting creative. Finding new ways to generate revenue will do that you. I wish them all the best, it just seems like they are all over the place.

Red Hat's role in this industry is clearly defined. 

There's been a huge movement towards open source. I think it's a great thing. There should be alternatives to close source if you ask me.

Red Hat struggled for several years as a company and struggled as they tried to move from a niche company to a multi-product company. But over the past few years they seem to have found the formula for success.

Existing Technology
It is great that Google was able to use another company's network. This allows them to offer broadband in specific populations that normally would not have access to broadband. Everyone deserves broadband access.

Interesting article. It is surprising that SD-WAN's success depends on critical masses of locations being realized in the same region but it makes sense.

There are several other factors that affect the success of SD-WAN and that is just one of them.

Red Hat and SD-WAN success
Red Hat probably did played a role with them having networking or programming. I've heard of Red Hat and it sounds familiar to me. So SD-WAN having all these network connections for customers so it would make sense where it came from Red Hat or something.
