Web Scale Impacting Telco
It's interesting for WebScale to have something connected to VNF/Virtual Network Functions as it related to Telcos is great. Maybe its's a win on both sides that have to offer each other.

@clrmoney, I agree.  I further believe that the way AT&T is using their applications to provide true "service" solutions will further drive the development.  I think they have a cutting edge prospect the way they are going about it.

As I was reflecting upon this, there is the issue of relevancy though as I just saw this and it sent shivers down my spine:

Beijing Wants A.I. to Be Made in China by 2030
By PAUL MOZUR

A new plan from the top of the Chinese government calls for the country to become a powerhouse in artificial intelligence in just over a decade.

There seems to a realization no doubt--but when I see China for instance at the forefront of a cashless society, making giant leaps in the area of the environment and other moves (including AI), I get concerned understandbly.

Interesting times..no doubt.

@mpouraryan, indeed, if we do not want a new society to dominate it is up to us to be a leader in the world economy and new solutions that work.  That is the best way to proceed!  I believe that is what AT&T is doing - which is great!

AT&T is indeed at the forefront with the moves it has undertaken--will it be able to continue to insure that it is scalable for the long-term as it is also about to get into the content business in a major way with the Time Warner Acquisition?

@mpouraryan, certainly nothing is guaranteed.  But they have "earned" their way as leaders.  If they continue to apply the same strategies, they stand a good chance of remaining in the lead.

I will put my money on them.

What will be amazing for us to deliberate as their "content" strategy takes hold.

Onward to August !!

They definitely have taken big leaps in order to still be a leader after all of these years. It seems they're always making the first move!

@dir5288, they are certainly an excellent example of "failing fast" and learning.  Maybe that is one of their strategies.  Along, with their upskilling of their entire workforce.

@dir5288, agreed.  It has to become a key part of balanced infrastructure or it will not be sustainable.  That is where those building infrastructure gain over those just working on projects.

@DHagar, the U.S. stopped being competitive a long-time ago. The country is more concerned with profit and greed which clouds technology development and advancement.

I think microservices can offer a lot of value-add in the ecosystem. It's going to be much more efficient and portable for things to be ported to smaller sizes. Containers were kind of a start to this, and I'm glad to see this continue.

@dcawrey, I fully agree.   Mico solutions move people in solid steps that produce immediate value while using the larger capabilities of new platforms and systems.  It becomes a matter of demonstration and "educative" sales.

@freehe, I fully agree that we have stopped "producing wealth" and growing our economies - we have been resting on our past accomplishments.

It is important to all of our industries that we regain the vision and leadership to again become world leaders - not just negotiate favorable treaties.  If we earn our way and regain the international leadership, we will create the best conditions from which we can all succeed.  That requires leadership of business/technology, education, and politicians,  AND informed citiizens.

I like the idea of turning legacy into microservices. I think it suits the customer better and makes keeping up with changing technology easier.

@afwriter. I agree. I think using microservices for legacy systems is a great solution. Many other solutions provided have failed or partially worked. Many companies sitll use legacy systems and want to convert them. This is a first step in helping them do just that.

AT&T continues to remain a leader in technology. It's great that Facebook and other companies create servers and open them freely for usage but it's unfortunate that they don't provide clear instructions on how to use them in a shared environment.
