Re: API and OSS
True! It can be very useful and it'll be interesting to see where they take it from here!

Re: Shrewd marketing
@JohnBarnes. That is a good point. Too many companies try to have such as broad scope of products and services. More companies need to have a niche and focus on that to ensure that they retain customers. This will also result in less churn and loss of customers.

WAN
"SD-WAN is in favor as hardware-based WAN management becomes hopelessly inadequate to cope with the variability in the traffic and application usage on multi-cloud networks."

The peformance of WAN has been steadily declining due to the increase in usage of internet, streaming data, videos and gaming. Traffic usage steadily increases and with the use of AI and big data, traffic will continue to increase.

Re: API and OSS
@sowen, I agree. It is great that companies want to use API's but with each new initiative requires a sound implementation plan and support from management as well as employees. It also requires a culture change and require training and/or high of employees with expertise in developing, implementing, and maintaining API's.

Re: Shrewd marketing
Paradoxically the great thing the APIs do for the customer in that data-center-to-data-center communication process is to make it invisible to the user -- though highly visible to IT (which isn't having to cope with as many user demands because of it). And since that's who actually recommends (or disrecommends) the vendor, IT is the one you want to impress.

Again, laser-ish focus on who really buys this and why.  Basics of good marketing.

Re: Shrewd marketing
One of the biggest technological developments that has spurred this forward is APIs. There are so many APIs available today, companys like Colt are doing a great job with things like orchestration to make things easier for companies - and they will pay for it!

Shrewd marketing
I'm impressed with Colt's very tight focus on data-center-to-data-center connectivity where they have a major advantage that can make a large, perceptible difference to the buyer. That's a textbook example of what good marketing is all about; you don't need all the potential buyers/users, just the ones who are going to love you and won't want anything else.

Re: API and OSS
Knowledge of API's inside most Operators is severely lacking and a hindrance to a timely deployment.

API and OSS
The API is something interesting having many things to offer with their networks and OSS as well so they both can bring something to the table.
