Re: Future
Definitely! There will be a lot of work to get done, but it'll be interesting to see what we recover.

Re: Future
@dir5288, it is almost a new evolution of Moore's Law.

It should keep us busy for the next 20 years!

Re: Machine Learning
That's definitely a scary thought. One that I hope would not be the overall outcome to new technologies and advancements.

Re: Machine Learning
This is my fear whenever we talk about machine learning/AI. I don't want to become beholden to the machines.

Re: Future
@dir5288, thanks!  Actually when you think about it, the purpose of technology is deliver data where it is needed and/or desired.  If we lose sight of the product we are less likely to get the value from the investments.

Re: Future
Very true! I think it's important to some times concentrate on the problem-solving aspect rather entirely on the new technology.

Re: AI
"I agree that algorithms can optimize environments in a much more efficient manner however, algorithms are only as good as the human who wrote it"

Yes and no. The question is how good a job any algorithm does at arriving at a solution. A really smart application of AI is using it to design an algorithm that performs the best. A problem that can be solved on a whiteboard isn't generally a good candidate for using AI techniques.
