Sky's' Closing the Gap
I like this ideal for closing the gap on the video, satellite etc. Sky will have many options to make it more convenient and better for themselves as well as customers.

@clrmoney, I agree. It is great that Sky can close the gap on satellite, video and other areas. This will allow them to offer additional products and services to customers and increase revenue.

"And it's Webb's responsibility to create the best experience possible for streaming customers, despite the vagaries of Internet connections. As such, his goal is to "close the gap" between the video experience a customer has on a private, controlled network like satellite, on one hand; and the open and unpredictable Internet, on the other.

This technology will not allow for hardware failures because customers demand service 24/7 especially during sports seasons. Systems and applications will have to have 999.99999999 uptime and have redundancy to ensure that everything works seamlessly and provide a great experience for customers.

Sky customers
Sky company's Sky Go service that allow satellite customers to view content on multiple devices is great. Many consumers are cutting the cord to cable and searching for alternatives such as satellite TV.

I think all customers want a high quality experience no matter what type of device they are using to view content and they want the content available 24/7 anytime anywhere.

It is great that Sky wants to give customers a satellite experience via OTT.

All cable companies spend millions of acquiring and developing content and charging customers a monthly fee. Customers should have the option to select the conten they want to view and pay a reasonable price for it.

For the record, I am a customer and value Sky's News coverage highly--and commend it for its' faboulous work on the Environment.   As I write this, Sky News is streaming in the background--and it underscores the innovative and forward looking matter it has.   I hope it sustains it!!

freehe  - Yes sports really is the final frontier for streaming services, in a sense. Individual events can scale massively, it's live so you have no time for adjustments and mistakes, and with so much action, it's always going to be a high bandwidth video stream. Engineering for streaming live sports has got to be a high-pressure job.

freehe - We are definitely seeing more pressure on "de-packaging" of video services, in a broad sense. Consumers are more insistent on picking what they want at a more granular level than the pre-packaged channel tiers that have existed in the past.

@freehe - I agree. Customers want to be able to access media content from anywhere at anytime. I would love to be able to give my kids the ability to watch Amazon while we drive from Colorado to Arizona and back again, without worrying that they will suddenly want to watch something I didn't download before we left.

@Adi - I would think customers wanting more choice in the content we receive has a lot to do with a cultural shift, where in general we just aren't satisfied anymore with choices just being handed to us. Even restaurants are opening up customer choices on the menu, you no longer have to just get fries if you want a combo meal, you now have choices. And we expect those choices with everything we're paying for - including our media.
