Re: SO-SDN
Virtualization is very important and it's super popular. I'm so excited how far it'll go in the next 10 years.

I have to wonder what AI might optimize for that humans might not think of. I'm sure our networks are highly inefficient, but they're set up that way for various reasons -- such as land rights ownerships, etc, etc..

Re: Steve Bell on Network Optimization
The other problems with some kinds of deep learning is that they create "black boxes" that no one can understand. It reminds me of the story of "tanks and clouds" in the early days of AI research.

http://lesswrong.com/lw/7qz/machine_learning_and_unintended_consequences/

There was a program that tried to distinguish military equipment like tanks in satellite imagery.. and it was trained on a set of photos and worked, seemingly. Until it was discovered that the training process was faulty, and it just taught the machine that there are tanks when there are no clouds in the sky....

Imagine this problem magnified 1000x with more complex data -- and we'll never know why some things go horribly wrong when it worked 99.99% correctly in the past and 100% on trained data.....

Steve Bell on Network Optimization
Deep learning, inductive rather than deductive reasoning, is particularly interesting. Since it's a neural process of analysis that mimics the brain, according to the article, it's really what artificial intelligence seems to be about.

Re: SO-SDN
@Joe Stanganelli, I agree. Virtualization is a key component of expanding services and growth. Virtualization also can provide a good ROI. However, usage of virtualization is dependent on the company's needs and long-term strategic plan.

There's been a lot of talk about SD-WANs and SONs in the same breath, lately.  This was the heavy implication that carried much of the day at a recent AI conference I attended, in fact.  Virtualization is going to prove key for effective AI growth, enhancement, and scalability.

Re: Networking AI and IOT
@clrmoney, I fully agree that there are great opportunities for those telcos that connect and apply their services to these AI and IoT platforms,  They will be in an excellent position to offer new service models, monetize, and optimize their investments.

For forwarding looking companies like AT&T this gives them a distinct advantage.

Networking AI and IOT
I like how they talked about network slicing for more individual services etc. It may also be helpful for AI and IOT with what that have to offer etc.
