Patient Care
"There have been a lot of case studies that VR is just as effective as a dose of hydromorphone, which is a powerful pain killer. If we can put a media experience on someone's face when they're going through a blood draw, when they are going through chemotherapy, dialysis, or some kind of acute stress situation, and we can lower their gamma activity in the brain, that might really reduce reliance on medication -- that might be an alternative to medication -- to treat baseline symptoms of what people are going through with anxiety."

It is admirable that StoryUp wants to use VR to help reduce pain for patients but they have a huge giant to deal with - the phamaceutical company is not interested in patients being in less pain and using less medication. They want patients to spend even more money on medicine and healthcare.

Re: MR Holograms
I've also only seen video, but from the video I have seen they look somewhat real. Didn't a news agency do a hologram for an event (maybe new years ever?) circa 2009?

It is critical for us to be looking to the future--and there is no question that the future is now--right?  ..and it is fascinating to be witness to ti all....

@mpouraryan - Oh brother - a thermostat that can play music! Let's not tell my husband about that one. We'd have it in a matter of weeks and my 4 year old would never stop listening to "Geronimo." *eye roll*

Re: MR Holograms
@Ariella I have never seen one live before - only videos.

But I would imagine in a performance environment where lighting can be manipulated it could look pretty real!

What we must do is to keep our head and not be "taken in"--is it a challenge?  Absolutely!!! Are we able to do it?  I can't help but wonder.....

Mike Pouraryan, But will we actually be thinking more rationally and not being taken in, or just feeling better about our rationality thanks to working through that mixed reality interface?

Re: Perhaps I'm just pessimistic today
We have to be better than that--by resisting and being aware and not be taken "in" by the latest.    It seems as if the people seem to get that as underscored by the latest out of Apple and not, per se, be blown away by Echo Look /etc. that Amazon is cooking up :) :)
