Re: Britain VR Video
That's awesome! And I'm pretty sure I heard or read that somewhere also. Which would be amazing for me because I don't have the best eyes..

I'm not so sure that project is going to graduate from the X labs. Sure, it would be nice, but I don't see (no pun intended) how such a contact lens would work without a lot of other stuff beaming information into your eyes. I suppose that would be a good way to get VR/AR to work without goggles, but I think it'll take more than a few years to get it to work.

Re: Britain VR Video
I could be wrong, but I feel like I read that Google was creating a contact lens to help people with vision impairment. This same technology could no doubt be used for VR down the road.

Re: Britain VR Video
@Ariella yes I think it does make sense as in my youth days I see students sneaking mini tape players to class to listen something else instead of the teacher...

@batye sure, studies indicates that we cannot really effectively multi-task for tasks that require real concentration. I was thinking that a nondetectable interface for VR can be used for people who either don't want to carry something or who don't want to reveal that the're paying attention to something else -- like people in meetings or students in classes.

Re: Britain VR Video
@Ariella interesting point:) in my books some people could cope with few things at once... but some like me could only do one thing at the time... VR expr build in contact lenses would put my brain to sleep... but it just me...

@Adi we'll know the future has truly arrived when the VR experienc ecan be packed into contact lenses. Then you can appear to be here while you're immersed in something completely different.

Re: Britain VR Video
@dcawrey - I agree it's very gimmicky. I had said in a different post my husband was at a grand opening for a new home building that is going in and they were using VR to let potential buyers get an idea for what the homes will look like once they are built. He said it was really cool, but like you said, that's just a short amount of time, going through your "potential home" and then you put the head set down and walk away. I hate wearing my glasses for prolonged periods of time, I don't see putting on a headset for a few hours for any reason.

Re: Britain VR Video
I was reading about Apple's progress in this space.

They aren't really talking about VR, more about AR because as a company with billions of users, they have to start with something useable.

Re: Britain VR Video
Ariella, dcawrey - Agreed. The headsets are a real limitation, at least for video. But its progressing fast. MSFT's HoloLens has several apps already available, and ODG's smartglasses generated a lot of buzz at CES this year.
