Linux and MEF together
MEF and Linux are coming together to solve a problem and MEF has three levels certifications. I think they can get it done by work together thoroughly.

Re: Linux and MEF together
For those who have worked in networking, opening up these standards is really a cool thing to do. It's going to make networks more flexible, efficient and redundant. I think this is a great move overall.

Coordination has advantages, but is speed one of them?
The free interchange of information through the standards organizations will probably speed things up, but I'm wondering if it doesn't also lead to everyone going down the same blind alleys and having to back out all together (or force a path inefficiently together) where a diversity of approaches, most of which are going to fail, wouldn't have opened more doors quickly. Top level businessfolk do like coordination, because it gives them something to do and take credit for, but the down-in-the-market struggles are mostly won by lower level people just trying to get through the year, and ultimately I tend to think the approach from microbiological evolution -- lots of offspring produced very rapidly, and only a few survive -- will probably prove the faster one.

Collaboration
It is great to see Linux and MEF collaborate to develop effective approaches to speed up NFV and SDN. Collaboration is a key component of developing solutions and improving on existing services.

Offering certifications will help to strengthen the industry's expertise.

@dcawrey, I dabbled a little in networking. You are correct. Opening up the standards is a great move and with allow collaboration among industry leaders. Standards will help to troubleshoot problems, idenitfy strengths and weaknesses and identify areas for growth.
